Blog #9 Characters Quotes

Amanda is extremely irritating. She is constantly on both of her children's cases, especially Tom. Amanda on multiple occasions says to Tom, "You smoke to much." This quotes shows Amanda’s persistence.  She cannot except the fact that her kids have there flaws. Amanda knows both her children are flawed, but the way she picks on Tom makes him more uncomfortable with his situation as the provider of the family. Amanda could be still hopeful that her husband will return to her, and the family. Although it seems that Amanda takes her anger out on Tom. She also stated that Tom reminds her so much of her husband. Amanda also nags and pushes Laura to find a gentlemen caller. She wants to marry her off so when Laura gets married, her husband would take Amanda into their houses. Amanda is a big reason for the families disfunction, and it all stems from her being a pest towards her two children. Tom's character seems to be held captive by his own surroundings. He is ground...

My Experience with Our Modern Adaptation of R&J

I felt my personal performance in our modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet was solid. I played Tybalt whose character had to protray a furious but yet comedic feel. I felt I could of done a better job with mastering my lines, but our entire movie kind of turned into a devised project. Watching the performance on video made me realize small subtle things I could fix. In one scene I looked at the camera when I was supposed to be focuses on Ivan. Lucky we caught this and re-shot the scene. Our group ran off with the idea of mocking the deaths of the main male characters. I felt I was the unspoken director of the group. I tried my hardest to keep everyone on task and try and meet deadlines. Our group found it extremely hard to be on the same page with scheduling. There were multiple occasions where miscommunication proved to be a a huge factor. We needed to reschedule a film session because one member didn't stay after school to film. One resolution to this problem could of bee...

Blog 8 Who I Will Be Playing in Ivan's Adaptation of R&J

In Ivan's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet I will be playing Tybalt. His adaptation is a modern parody of the classic play. It mocks the unrealistic aspect of the original play. Imagine the death scenes in the original play, than amp the exaggeration up by 100x to see what we will have in store in our short film. Romeo and Mercutio will start out in their sacred room. They will be debating about going to the party or not. They will ultimalty decide to go to the Capulet party. Romeo meets Juliet and has sex with her. Tybalt will over see this and follow the two back to the sacred room of Montague. Tybalt will then challenge Romeo to a game of NBA 2k18 on the XBOX. Romeo will deny. Then Mercurio will jump at the opportunity to play him. Tybalt will crush Mercurio in the video game until Mercurio dies of a heart attack. Romeo will avenge Mercurio by beating Tybalt equally as bad in FIFA. At the end of the game, Tybalt will be furious and accuse Romeo of cheating. He will then come at ...

My Adaptation of R&J Blog

My modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is about a wealthy white male from Chicago who falls madly in love with a African American girl. He has been dating her for about 3 months. Her parents and family know she has been dating a guy for a while, but does not know he is white. He goes from the comfort of his house to the Southside of Chicago to meet the girls family for the first time. The girl lives in one of the worst neighborhoods in the city. He has never been there and does not know what he is walking into. The girl is both excited and nervous because she does not know how her parents will react to him being white. The parents are shocked. They cannot believe their eyes, and act very hostile against her boyfriend, and disapprove of the relationship going any further. The man exits the house in tears. He genuinely loved this girl. While walking back to his car he is spotted by a gang. The gang comes up to him and starts questioning why he is in their neighborhood. They open fir...

A Modern Shakespeare Baz Lurhmann?

Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare is one of the most adapted pieces of literature ever. The version that Baz Lurhmann made into a movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio was an interesting adaptation of the classic. It was an modernized take that had the original Shakespearean language. We watched this adaptation in class over the course of a few weeks. Baz Lurhmann followed the path of the original play, but had some interesting staging, and plot twists at the end.   Baz Lurhmann directed a modern adaptation of Romeo & Juliet. The setting took place in a city called "Verona Beach." Much like the original play the Capulet's and Montague's have a long feud between their two houses. In the opening scene their clothing shows that the two houses are extremely different. The Montague's had bright clothing and a yellow convertbale car.  The Capulets were dressed in dark formal clothing, and had a black sedan. At the costume party thrown by Lord Capulet, Rome...
