My Experience with Our Modern Adaptation of R&J
I felt my personal performance in our modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet was solid. I played Tybalt whose character had to protray a furious but yet comedic feel. I felt I could of done a better job with mastering my lines, but our entire movie kind of turned into a devised project. Watching the performance on video made me realize small subtle things I could fix. In one scene I looked at the camera when I was supposed to be focuses on Ivan. Lucky we caught this and re-shot the scene.
Our group ran off with the idea of mocking the deaths of the main male characters. I felt I was the unspoken director of the group. I tried my hardest to keep everyone on task and try and meet deadlines. Our group found it extremely hard to be on the same page with scheduling. There were multiple occasions where miscommunication proved to be a a huge factor. We needed to reschedule a film session because one member didn't stay after school to film. One resolution to this problem could of been to have multiple scenes where only 2 of the 3 actors needed to be present in the scene. Most of our scenes incorporated all 3 actors which was problematic, because I was often wandering the halls of VDP to find a guy to film.

Our groups vision of the modern parody of Romeo and Juliet was constant from day one. We always wanted the scene to be extremely funny. I think we accomplished that. Our adaptation helps people understand the conflict between the Capulet's and Montague's in the original Shakespeare play. Even though Tybalt was dating Juliet who is not his cousin in our adaptation, it still shows that Juliet was the main conflict and that she is the main reason for the deaths of all the men characters. Our adaptation also shows the void between the two families. Romeo in our adaptation ends up killing himself for feeling depressed and guilty that both Mercurio and Tybalt are dead. He feels guilty about stealing Tybalt's girlfriend We changed the setting from a island to the dorms, because it would be extremely hard for us to make a island with our resources. The death of Romeo was added at the end of our movie.. This was not apart of the original parody script.
My progression as a actor over the past three years has shown a lot of promise. I am no longer afraid to act or look ridiculous on stage. My hair was crazy, and I was very over the top with my acting. Our movie is meant to be funny, and mock a cliché word in modern English that is used way too much. You will see what I mean in this movie. I believe I really broke out of my shell since my time in Ms Guarino's classes. I have grown a lot over these last few months especially. I now take things a lot more serious than what I did, and take everything my teachers tell me to do I try and incorporate it into my work. I am looking forward to keep showing progress through the next 2 years, and do the best I can for everything I do.
Movie Outline: My group had a solid idea modern parody of the classic play. It mocks the unrealistic aspect of the original play. Imagine the death scenes in the original play, than amp the exaggeration up by 100x to see what we will have in store in our short film. Romeo and Mercutio will start out in their sacred room. They will be debating about going to the party or not. They will ultimalty decide to go to the Capulet party. Romeo meets Juliet and has sex with her. Tybalt will over see this and follow the two back to the sacred room of Montague. Tybalt will then challenge Romeo to a game of NBA 2k18 on the XBOX. Romeo will deny. Then Mercurio will jump at the opportunity to play him. Tybalt will crush Mercurio in the video game until Mercurio dies of a heart attack. Romeo will avenge Mercurio by beating Tybalt equally as bad in FIFA. At the end of the game, Tybalt will be furious and accuse Romeo of cheating. He will then come at Romeo, but Romeo will respond by throwing acid on Tybalt ultimately burning him alive. This is how the movie will end.
