Blog Presentations

Some of the pointers I took out of last weeks presentations on famous acting teachers will definitely benefit me in my own acting project. The scene I will be doing is from The Glass Menagerie. Jasmine and I will be performing the dance scene between Jim and Laura. This scene needs to show true emotions, and motions for it to be played off as real. Our goal is to reenact the scene in a realistic way.  The presentations delivered by my peers were concise, and got straight to the facts on each person they were doing. These famous teachers had very similar ultimate goals, but took different approaches of getting there. Vsevoled Meyerhold hated everything that was predictable. She wanted her actors to be spontaneous and respond the way they would in real life. Sanford Meisner believed his actors should use true emotion. His famous saying of "acting should be truthful in imaginary circumstances." really stood out to me. This means that even though acting is not real you should...

1-12 Proposal for Project

The scene Jasmine and I chose to perform is the dance scene between Jim, and Laura. It took place after dinner when the power went out in the house. This scene is important because it is where Laura breaks through her shyness, and starts to open up. While dancing Jim breaks the glass unicorn. But Laura doesn't seem to care. In this moment I believe Laura started falling for Jim. But once Laura finds out that Jim is engaged, she reverts quickly. This is the climax of the play. In the scene I will be playing Jim. Jasmine will be playing Laura. I feel this scene can be a fun challenge for both of us. In the past, I’ve struggled with serious scenes.  I feel the reason why is because I like being funny, and I am more comfortable in comedic scenes. But I feel I can overcome this challenge. I have never worked with Jasmine before in a major project, but I can tell she is a skilled actress who takes her work very seriously. This will allow us to put our own interpretation into performin...

I want to pick a scene and show how crippled Laura is mentally Scene: I may pick is when Laura meets Jim at the doors, and is very socially awkward YouTube example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDPMBDiwL0M&t=322s (1:12:02-1:14:00) 3. I want to pick a scene where Jim has shown genuine care for Laura, and trying to turn her life around Scene: When Jim and Laura are sitting in the living room YouTube example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDPMBDiwL0M&t=322s (1:40:00-1:44:53) 4. I want to pick a scene that shows Laura's physical disability and dependence on her Mother and Tom Scene: Where Laura falls down on the stairs, an...
