Les Miserables Review

Les Miserables Did NOT Make Me Miserable This Time... On the night of February 23th, 2018 after a tiresome Friday I found myself in the Cheshire Academy blackbox to watch Les Misérables written by Victor Hugo The CA production helped me further understand Les Miserables The first time I watched the movie, I was lost. The main faculty of the production were Ms. Guarino, Mrs. Monohan, Jaime Lynch, Nathalie Michiels, Nate Trier, Jesse Ofganag, Sally Pollard and Eunyoung DiGiacamo. The major themes of Les Miserables are social classes, power of war, love, and doing the right thing.  The play starts out with multiple prisoners shoveling dirt while singing  "Look Down."  Jean Valijean prisoner 24601 is in the middle of the prison line. Valijean has been imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread. Confronted by Javert, Valijean is brought his parole papers, and Valijean is free to go. Valijean comes across a Priest who feeds him. That night Valijean steals si...

Essay TGM (First Draft)

Josh Comune Ms. Guarino  IB Lit  Performance  February 27, 2018 The Rise and Fall of Laura's Character Stemmed off the Presence of Jim O'Connor    In the play The Glass Menagerie,  the highlighted theme of Laura's character throughout the play is hopelessness. Act 2 Scene 8 proves to be a breaking point of this constant for Laura, but her progression is solely based off of Jim O'Connor. Once Jim leaves, Laura will again find herself in the same hopeless position she has always been in. Jim proves to be the one shot for Laura to find love in her life. Jim's character is seen as a potential spouse for Laura by Tom and Amanda. From the moment Jim O'Connor enters the play, he has an effect on Laura. The literary analysis I am going to explore throughout this paper is how Laura's character progresses, and digresses throughout Act 2 Scene 8 from Jim O'Connor's presence and actions on stage.    My scene begins  complet...

2-14 Reflexion in TGM project

Video link:  https://youtu.be/ACLMWJ1BnX4 On Tuesday in class Jasmine and I performed the final version of our scene. The scene we chose was  from The Glass Menagerie. The highlight of the scene is when  Jim and Laura dance, and embrace.  The production of our scene turned out to be really good. There were very little stumbles with lines, and dialogue came out smooth. Both Jasmine and I looked good on camera. Ms. Guarino completemented us on our blocking.  It consistsed lots of simple movements true to the scene. The use of the bridge turned out to be crucial for our scene development. We were able to show authority of Jim over Laura from the levels of the bridge. The end of the scene may of been the most dramatic, and critical for emotional development. Jasmine did a great job of showing sadness, and I was able to show remorse. The scene started off completely dark. Our dialogue started once the lights focused on center stage. From watching the video t...

Blog Post 2/5

After performing our scene in front of the class and going through the memorization quiz, there are still some things I feel Jasmine and I need to work on to perfect our scene. During the quiz, I realized I may have the most lines out of everyone in the class :| but I feel up to the challenge! A lot of the feedback indicated that our staging and blocking needs to be improved. There were many times where our scene seemed to rushed, especially the parts where I am supposed to walk around, and ultimately get closer to Laura. Jim is always moving around in the dance scene, so I need to do a better job of not standing in single spot for too long. Our props need to be improved. We need to have a candle. The candle was an important symbol in the play, and it adds to scenes mood. Jasmine and I should also find a plastic horse figurine instead of a mouse haha! I also feel if we could find a couch that could add to the scene. We wouldn't sit on it because in the play, Jim opts to sit on ...
