Ch6-7 Notes
Ch 6:
The rain starts to dissipate, and the crops of the village finally start to bloom
Tonton talks to Désirée about how long and hard his journey was from the "Palace Beauxhomme"
We get a detailed description of the Beauxhomme and how they become so wealthy through sugar cane, indigo, mahogany
And they talk about a story how a wealthy man fell in love with a black peasant
Désirée wants to leave her village in order to be with Daniel Beauxhomme
Everyone thinks that she is crazy and unreasonable and out of line
Tonton and Mama Euralie think that these are childish thoughts she has but then Désirée starts talking about she is 16 and changing
At the end of the chapter Tonton and Mama Euralie agree not to discuss it anymore and let the Gods decide what Désirée's path should be
Ch 7:
Désirée starts out the chapter by praying to the Gods
Désirée is walking with Mama Euralie but there is a sense that Désirée will run away if any opportunity is given
They are walking to a Christian ceremony where Désirée fate maybe decided
Vain Erzulie- a lady, tall, broad, beautiful. She introduces herself as the "Loa of love" and she says how she holds her to that vow Désirée made that one night where Papa Gé appeared
These are the Gods that Désirée is seeing
Désirée thinks she maybe dreaming
Gods talk about how they need a romance in order to be saved
Erzulie and Agwae start to turn on each other and Erzulie says that Agwe is extremely selfish
A fight between the Gods starts to break out
At the end Papa Gé approaches Désirée and Mama and they both run away
