CH 12-14 Notes

New Characters:
Mathilde- Daniel's grandmother and nurse
Andrea Gailmar- Daniel's wife to be (Through planned marriage)


Ch 12:
Désirée wakes up in Daniel's bed
Mathilde- Daniel's grandmother and nurse
She tells Désirée to leave the room and the hotel
Désirée says "She cannot leave, I shall not leave until Monsieur Daniel is well."
Daniel says that Désirée makes him feel better and that he doesn't want her to leave as well
Mathilde doesn't agree with it because she won't know what to tell Daniel's father
Daniel says that he will take care of that
His father then comes in and is surprised to see Désirée with his son
She tells Gabriel how she is chosen by the Gods to help and nurse Daniel
Gabriel says that her Gods are nonsense and that "when one questions for answers they do not know what to do"
HE then leaves and not looking back at Désirée
Daniel continues to get stronger and better everyday Désirée is with him
When Mathilde sees Dnailes improvements she tells Désirée that there is no longer a purpose for her to be there and once Gabriel returns from France he will compensate her
However, Daniel defends her and says that he wants her to continue to be with him
She gets excited about her dresses and the atmosphere of the hotel
When Daniel and Désirée are getting ready for bed, Désirée sees a lurking man in the garden (Papa Gé) However, when Daniel leaves and searches he says that no one was out there except Lucifus

Ch 13:
Gabriel is still in France and has been there for extended weeks
Daniel wants to throw a part for his fathers return
When the day of the party comes, the party is phemonomial and Daniel decides that this is the day he starts to announce the presence of his mistress (Helper)
Désirée is in a white dress and is happy and amazed of all the people and money
She becomes confident when people start to complement her in different languages
"She dreams became her reality"
Désirée starts dancing and is admired by many
Mathilde tells Désirée that she should go off with one of the men that is at the party
Désirée only wants to be with Daniel
Mathilde says "Did the Gods curse you?" then Désirée becomes scared and runs off
She then finds Lucifus but his body has been possessed by Papa Gé
He then disappeared


Ch 14:
Daniel's finance is going to return from France soon
Désirée is alone in the hotel for a couple of days and hears the rumors matriculating
She then prays to "Agwe, Erzulie, have mercy, protect me!"
When Daniel returns she confronts him about the marriage
Daniel says it was that way "since birth and now they are no longer bound by the wishes of the old"
They then joke a bit about Andrea's beauty and Désirée feels more assured than what he did
Daniel's leg is completely healed now except for a little limp
Mathilde is tottaly convinced that Daniel is cursed " The gods know well what they do"
Gabriel invites Andrea over to the hotel and Désirée was not invited
She watches from the balcony outside their rooms
Andrea sees Désirée as her and Daniel are dancing
Andrea says "Never have I seen such a beautiful black girl. Can we keep her?
That night Désirée is given her own small room in the hotel at the far end of the hallway

Footloose Review of Winter Musical

On Wednesday night February 27th, I decided to attend the Cheshire Academy varsity production of the musical "Footloose" in the black box theater. This was a dress rehearsal for the actual performance that took place on the first weekend of March. "Footloose" was written by Dean Pitchford, and Walter Bobbie in 1998. An interesting fact about "Footloose" is that the musical came out after the movie in 1984. Many times it is the movie that is made after the book or play. For the Cheshire Academy production, notable cast members included: Tony Wang, Olivia Williamson, Aaron Luo, along with 10 graduating seniors. "Footloose" is a musical play that many high school students can relate to. Ren McCormack is a teen from Chicago, who doesn't really fit in anywhere. Setting: Caribbean Island Island: Jewel of the Antilles Rich- don't believe in Gods/modernized/French  Peasants people- old ways/religion rural setting/workplace for most likely slaves Characters: Asaka- godess of earth and all growing things Agwe- God of sea and all the waters M. Bienconnu- the village centenarian, who is a older women Ti Moune-  Désirée (real name) An african orphan girl who is dreaming of cars and possibly a way out of this life she is limited to now. Real parents stuck her in the mango tree and they died Mama Euralie-Peasant, adopted mother and believes that Désirée is a gift from the Gods to her Tonton Juliet- Peasant, adopted father, who does not want to take the burden of a child. In class writing 5-7

Something that made each poetry recital unique is the performance and interpretations each actor had for their poems. Poetry is very adaptive and can be recited in many ways. For example, Leslie and Nan’s performances really stood out to me becuase they chose to sing verses of their poems. The music they chose had no relation to the original poem, but they made it flow as if the poem was perfect for the song. Their performances turned out great, and were by far my favorites of the class! Jack’s recital and performance I felt was kind of dry. He displayed very little movement on stage, and he was very hard to hear. Both of these things effective his overall performance negatively.
