Our group has worked hard in the past two weeks on trying to make the best of our scene. Since then, we have been able to make noticeable improvements. Ms. Guarino said today that she was also impressed with the changes and she even thought that the performance may receive a good grade from the IB. Our group has been working hard everyday, and also putting in time after class to work on small details that could put our scene over the top of the other groups. Yun, Joey, Helen, and I are all committed to making the best out of the performance and come the final show, I believe we will be at our best yet. It has been great to work with this group, and everyone is open to new ideas that could further improve our scene. I like to think that this final version we came up with is a collaborative group effort with everyone having at least one detail that they added into the performance.
The elements that we worked so hard on to improve were emotion, blocking, and staging. The newly found emotion that each character portrays in the scene gives it a dynamic that the play previously did not have. Our performance went from being extremely dry and boring, to something that an audience can actually enjoy and be engaged in. The blocking was another issue in our early drafts. Actors had no stage directions. This caused characters to stand in one spot with minimal movement, because they did not know how to react to the other character's actions. Also, most of the pivotal scenes all took place at "up left stage" which would not be a problem. However, our staging was setup for the play to take place down center, right, and left stage. All of these locations are now utilized to the fullest in our performance which could not have been said before. These details that we worked on to improve were easily pointed out, but they were a lot harder to actually improve. Overall, I am proud on how our group has responded to some good critiques that were pointed out in the early stages of the scenes production.
