Danticat's style writing
- Varied style/ tone to represent various voices (different perspectives)
- Realistic (violence) vs. fantastical writing (images of beauty)
- She creates a contrast (themes: hope vs. hopelessness)
- Unnamed characters- everyday voices, representing a group as a whole)
- Uses different styles to portray different characteristics of narrators/characters
- Ambiguity-not concrete, more open to interoperation
- Danticat puts holes in the book purposely to interact with the reader

1. Night- very plain, and dead writing, (Traditional prose)
2. Mother- uses symbols, imagery, vivid, emotional (Poetry)
