Blog 2 "Seize the Day"
While reading “Seize the Day” I thought a lot about how the poem pertained to me as an individual. The main message of the poem is how to live your life to the fullest. Everyday should be cherished. However, this is harder ever the case with anybody. People usually don’t end up enjoying everyday of their lives. I realIze in my life I am guilty of this as well. I sometimes flow through not taking into account that the experiences I have everyday. Ultimately some of these experiences I think are insignificant today, might be the moments I reflect on the most later in life. The memories that you make is what makes your life meaningful.
The line “Love your work, and enjoy your play. Remember” stood out to me because so many people are miserable in their jobs. This ultimately leads to that person’s unhappiness in their life. If people love what they do, it’ll reflect on their image of themselves and their self worth. Often times whenever I am forced to partake in something I do not want to do, I feel unhappy. However, when I want to do something I usually feel really good about myself once that task is complete. “Remember” is a key word in this poem. It is repeated a great deal to show significance of past events in ones life. By remembering to cherish every moment it can lead to a happier being.
The line “You must imagine and learn to embrace each and every day.” stood out as well. Again it may seem a bit cliche, but if taken into account this line could be the key to a life of happiness. Happiness comes from within yourself by feeling content with how your life is turning out. This line is saying that you mush learn to love the experiences of life in order to feel happy. Each day is special even if they don’t seem like it in the moment. Remember the things that make you unique, and by doing this you are on your way to living a happier life.
“Greet your ancestors in our native tongue.” This line just has a poetic feel to me and I really like it. It means by remembering where you come from is an important piece to living an authentic life. Your family history is what makes you special. Family culture is a defining piece in many peoples lives. Your family will always there for you, and many times they prove to be a beacon of light.
The poem “Seize the Day” can have many interpretations. As seen in my classesmates performances on stage, everyone had their own adaptation of this poem. This poem has a different meaning for everyone who reads it. Each line in a poem could be seen as an important one in another persons eye. My interpretation of how the poem is to cherish everyday like it’s your last. But this is only my interpretation and maybe completely different from someone else’s. And that is what makes poetry so powerful by giving the reader a freedom to decide what the poem means to them.
