Modern Adaptation of Romeo & Juliet Movie Notes


Scene 1
News castor is doing the prologue
Verona, is Venice Beach
Prologue repeated twice, second time it flashes through the entire play
Montague's and Capulets fight each other at a gas station with guns
Prince of Verona is a police officer
many people died in this fight
Music give depressed feel, when we are first introduced to Romeo he write into is diary by himself



Scene 2
At hotel, and a sauna Paris and Lord Capulet talk
Romeo and Benvolio are at a bar playing billiards
They find out about the party from a newscast instead of the letter


Scene 3
First time we see Juliet she is in the water of the bathtub
she is wearing a bath rob
Juliet mother is very outgoing
Juliet again is overriding by the mother and nurse in this scene


Scene 4
Romeo's costume- knight in shining amour
Queen mab makes everything magical in original Shakespeare
They say queen mab is drugs in this adaptation
Mercutio is dressed as a lady
Romeo has his foreshadowing moment of death and lets fate become the decider


Scene 5
Juliets costume- Fairy with wings
Paris is a astronaut
Juliet is intrigued by Romeo even while dancing with Paris
Juliet brushes Romeo's first kiss attempt off
The door shuts and they kiss 3 times before the nurse comes
Tybalt doesn't recognize Romeo by his voice but he only sees him
Romeo is high from the drugs
Romeo puts his face in what
colors are blue, green transparent fish tank. The love music in this scene. sees Juliet through the fish tank for the first time. They stare at each other for a long time and smile






ACT 2
Romeo jumps out of the car and hides in the Capulets yard by the pool until he sees the light turn on in Juliet's rooms
Mercutio and Benvolio go looking for him, making fun of Rosline to tick him off
Juliet comes out to the back yard
Romeo is hiding when he makes him apparent to Juliet she gets scared and they both fall in the pool.
the water is a reoccurring theme of love, pool lights are a light blue and make the water crystal clear
Juliet seems hesitant Romeo keeps kissing her
until Romeo says don't leave me unsatisfied
They agree to marry after he says this
I feel Juliet agrees to this so she doesn't need to marry Paris


Romeo goes to Friar and asks him to Marry him and Juliet. He agrees because he thinks it can settle the feud between the two families
Benvolio and Mercutio play fight on Venice beach
When Romeo arrives they talk and play around with him
Then the nurse comes and over pulls Romeo over to the side
The Nurse approves the marriage between the two
Capulets come to the Montague's on the beach
Music adds to the extent of drastic scenes
This is were Tybalt kills Mercutio
Romeo pleads his case to Tybalt
Tybalt comes after Romeo,  Romeo asks Tybalt to kill him. He starts to beat up Romeo, This then  breaks into a all out brawl
Merctuio has the oppurtnuinty to kill Tybalt but Romeo holds him back then Tybalt stabs Mercutio

"A plague on both your houses"Mercutio says,  then the weather turns into a hurricane. He tells Romeo off right before he dies
Music is very suspenseful
Romeo chases tybalt in the car, then crashes into Tybalt's car.
Romeo is driven by rage but tybalt gets him in gun point
then Romeo goes supersain then unleashes many shots and kills Tybalt.
He drops the gun and it starts to rain
Romeo needs to vanish now so he hops in a car that pulls up
Prince arrests Benvolio
Benvolio says that the capulets start the fight and kill Mercutio but then he does say Romeo killed Tybalt

Footloose Review of Winter Musical

On Wednesday night February 27th, I decided to attend the Cheshire Academy varsity production of the musical "Footloose" in the black box theater. This was a dress rehearsal for the actual performance that took place on the first weekend of March. "Footloose" was written by Dean Pitchford, and Walter Bobbie in 1998. An interesting fact about "Footloose" is that the musical came out after the movie in 1984. Many times it is the movie that is made after the book or play. For the Cheshire Academy production, notable cast members included: Tony Wang, Olivia Williamson, Aaron Luo, along with 10 graduating seniors. "Footloose" is a musical play that many high school students can relate to. Ren McCormack is a teen from Chicago, who doesn't really fit in anywhere. Setting: Caribbean Island Island: Jewel of the Antilles Rich- don't believe in Gods/modernized/French  Peasants people- old ways/religion rural setting/workplace for most likely slaves Characters: Asaka- godess of earth and all growing things Agwe- God of sea and all the waters M. Bienconnu- the village centenarian, who is a older women Ti Moune-  Désirée (real name) An african orphan girl who is dreaming of cars and possibly a way out of this life she is limited to now. Real parents stuck her in the mango tree and they died Mama Euralie-Peasant, adopted mother and believes that Désirée is a gift from the Gods to her Tonton Juliet- Peasant, adopted father, who does not want to take the burden of a child. But he does love her Plot: Chapter 1: There are two classes of people living on the island but chapter 1 brings mostly aspects of the peasant way of life. In class writing 5-7

Something that made each poetry recital unique is the performance and interpretations each actor had for their poems. Poetry is very adaptive and can be recited in many ways. For example, Leslie and Nan’s performances really stood out to me becuase they chose to sing verses of their poems. The music they chose had no relation to the original poem, but they made it flow as if the poem was perfect for the song. Their performances turned out great, and were by far my favorites of the class! Jack’s recital and performance I felt was kind of dry. He displayed very little movement on stage, and he was very hard to hear. Both of these things effective his overall performance negatively.
