Blog 6 Friar Lawrence the Peacekeepers
Friar Lawrence is in my perspective a peacekeeper in my opinion . He is a wise, and knowledgeable. His character is kind character, and really wants to keep the best version. Through the play he is viewed as a positive community figure as well as someone to look up to. Since he is in fact a priest Romeo went to ask Friar Lawrence for a very big favor. This favor was if he could marry Romeo to his beloved Juliet.
When Romeo came to his cell for Friair Lawrence to marry him and Juliet, Friar lawerence calmed Romeo down. He was very anxious and up tight the first time he approached friar about the marriage. When Friair agreed to marry the two it took a huge burden off of Romeo. Now he felt at peace and happy that he would marry his love Juliet. When they did get married Friar again got Romeo to calm down, but once Juliet entered the scene he was all distraught again.
At first Friar Lawrence said, "Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here! Is Rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear, so soon forsaken? Young men's love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes." This showing Friar wasn't very sure about marrying Romeo and Juliet off. This instance can't really be seen as if he wasn't trying to be a peacekeeper though. This is because Friar wanted to make sure that Romeo was serious about this and wasn't purely doing it because of Juliet's looks, but because of her heart. Friar did change his mind in the end because he thought of what could possibly come out of this marriage.
Even though we have not read this far into the play I know Friar gives Juliet the sleeping potion. This is so everyone thinks she is dead so her and Romeo and be together. This is another he who's that he is a peace keeper. Sadly it does not work out like this and when Romeo sees Juliet unconscious he killed hinslef showing undecided love. But Friar Lawrence did everything in his power to get them together, so peace could come between the Montagues and Capulets
The Montaques and Capulets were always having fights or causing trouble to one another, realizing that this marriage could stop all this between the two families he agreed. This is told to people watching or reading the play from when he says, "In one respect I'll thy assistant be. For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households' rancor to pure love." Showing that even though Friar doesn't really believe in this so called love that Romeo has towards Juliet he'll marry the pair only so they can possibly end the feud between the two families. This shows how even though Friar is not sure about this arrangement he's being wise as to try to be a peacekeeper so that the town no longer has to deal with the Montaques and Capulets constant fights.
